Flying Yankee Doodle

When we donated to the Flying Yankee‘s traction motor restoration, I noticed that their website allows you to submit an image with your donation. I asked Ray to do a little cocktail napkin drawing of the train to append to ours.

A sketchy doodle of the Flying Yankee with a tall, mounted headlight.

The association asked us if they could use the drawing for promotional materials, which Ray agreed to, but I pointed out that the headlight they’d drawn on him was a style that that engine never actually had. Ray then did an edited version of the drawing to be more accurate.

A corrected sketch of the Flying Yankee with the correct, flush-installed headlight.

They then asked if the image could be made into a vector graphic, which was my time to shine! I put it in Illustrator and traced it out in strokes.

The same drawing of the Flying Yankee as above, but traced in sharp vector line strokes.

We haven’t seen them use it yet, but we were quite honored to be asked.
